On the Shore

On the shores
of a new world
we explore
our fists uncurl
letting go
of sand
from the homeland
we stand
one
and many
few
focused
out at the sea
at all those troubles
God pray
hopefully behind us now.

not washed
upon the shore
are we
but settled
by intentions great
and trust
in fate
and the faithful
changed
our faces to the sun
our ears to the Son
of his dreams
our era

and perhaps
women may dance
upon these shores
someday
too
with ankles adorned
with trinkets
and with bangles
upon our wrists
to replace
those invisible objects
fastened there now.

the dream
of a promised land
complete
hope has already planted
the seeds
